Submerged arc welding how to avoid bubbles

2023-11-02

Submerged arc welding is a common welding method for producing high-quality, efficient welds. However, a common problem faced by welders is the formation of bubbles during the welding process. Some tips on how to avoid bubbles during submerged arc welding and achieve seamless welding include the following methods.

First, welding wire plays a key role in avoiding bubbles during submerged arc welding. Using the correct welding wire can significantly reduce bubble formation. SJ-101 welding wire has low moisture absorption and can prevent cracking caused by hydrogen. It is a commonly used welding wire for submerged arc welding.

Secondly, the welding process should be performed in a controlled environment. Welding in high humidity environments can lead to the formation of bubbles. Therefore, it is very important to maintain a dry and stable environment during the welding process. Ideally, the relative humidity should be below 70% to prevent the wire from absorbing moisture.

Third, the welding speed must be consistent and well controlled. Welding too fast or too slow can cause bubbles to form. Welding too fast can result in insufficient fusion, causing the heat from the welding source to fail to penetrate the metal and causing bubbles to form. On the other hand, welding too slowly can cause the metal to overheat and produce excess gas, leading to the formation of bubbles.

Fourth, welding temperature must be closely monitored. The weld temperature should be controlled below the boiling point of the metal to avoid bubbles. When the welding temperature is too high, bubbles will form, causing the weld to weaken.

In short, avoiding the generation of bubbles during submerged arc welding is the key to achieving seamless welding. In order to avoid bubbles, appropriate welding wire should be selected, the welding environment should be dry and stable, the welding speed should be controlled consistently, and the welding temperature should be closely monitored. By following these tips, welders can produce high-quality and efficient welds without any bubbles.
