Submerged Arc Welding Flux AN-60

Submerged Arc Welding Flux AN-60

Submerged Arc Welding Flux AN-60 is a high-performance, agglomerated flux designed for efficient welding of carbon and low-alloy steels, such as Q345, 16Mn, Q390, and 15MnV. This neutral to active flux offers excellent slag detachability, smooth bead appearance, and superior weld metal integrity, making it ideal for automatic and semi-automatic submerged arc welding processes. Compatible with wires like EL12, EM12K, and Sv-08A, AN-60 ensures high deposition rates and minimal spatter, enhancing productivity in structural fabrication, shipbuilding, and pressure vessel manufacturing.

Product Description

Overview

AN-60 is a high-silicon, high-manganese flux specifically formulated for submerged arc welding (SAW) applications. It belongs to the category of vitreous or pumiceous fluxes with a reactivity rating of approximately 0.75, providing a balance between weld pool protection and alloying effects. This flux is widely used in industries requiring robust welds on low- and medium-alloy steels, offering compatibility with various welding wires to produce deposits with excellent tensile strength and impact toughness.

Key Features

  • Chemical Composition: Typically includes high levels of SiO2 (silicon dioxide) and MnO (manganese oxide) for enhanced deoxidation and slag formation. It acts as a neutral to slightly active flux, minimizing hydrogen pickup and reducing the risk of cracking.
  • Grain Size: Granulated to a standard size for consistent flow and coverage, ensuring uniform arc stability.
  • Welding Performance: Provides easy slag removal even at high temperatures, low spatter, and a clean weld bead with good fusion. It supports multi-pass welding without porosity issues.
  • Compatibility: Pairs effectively with welding wires such as Sv-08A, EL12, EM12K, and others. For example, when combined with Sv-08A, it meets ISO 14171:2002 standards for tensile strength and yield.
  • Applications: Ideal for welding structural steels like Q345, 16Mn, Q390, and 15MnV. Commonly used in fabrication of bridges, pipelines, boilers, and heavy machinery. It can replace similar fluxes like HJ431 in carbon steel welding scenarios.
  • Advantages: Reduces oxygen content in weld metal for improved ductility; high deposition efficiency (up to 20-30% higher than basic fluxes in some cases); suitable for both AC and DC welding currents.
  • Packaging and Storage: Available in 25-50 kg bags or bulk tons. Store in dry conditions to prevent moisture absorption, which could affect performance.
  • Safety and Handling: Non-toxic but generates fumes during welding—use proper ventilation. Complies with industry standards for low-alloy steel welding.

For optimal results, use AN-60 in controlled environments with appropriate welding parameters: voltage 28-35V, current 400-600A, and travel speed 30-50 cm/min, depending on the setup.
